Margaret Howe Lovatt tried to teach Peter the dolphin how to speak English but their relationship progressed to a whole new level. A woman who had sex with a dolphin as part of a scientific study has spoken out for the first time. During the swinging 60s, animal researcher Margaret Howe Lovatt was part of a Nasa-funded experiment on the US Virgin Islands to teach the intelligent sea creatures how to speak English. In she helped turn a house into a domestic dolphinarium by flooding it with knee-deep water, where researchers could study the animals from their home. It was there she met Peter, an adolescent dolphin she described as 'sexually coming of age'. Margaret said: "Peter liked to be He would rub himself on my knee, my foot or my hand and I allowed that.

The Evolution of Bruno Littlemore is a novel that is narrated by a superintelligent chimpanzee. Either that sentence made you roll your eyes or it made you excited to read the book ; there's probably not a middle ground. Though I generally despise books written from the perspective of animals, I gave Bruno some leeway because of the low key science fiction trappings. And Bruno is a great narrator—verbose, self-effacing, painfully unaware of his own failings as a um person. It helps that he comes from a long line of literary characters, from Frankenstein on up, who are desperate to find their own humanity. Bruno's criticism of Pinocchio: His "quest to 'become a real boy' is absurd. He is already anthropomorphic! The first half of the book details Bruno's development from a laboratory chimp to a talking celebrity. He also has sex with a human woman in passages that are joyfully squicky in much the same way as the enthusiastic incest scenes in an early John Irving novel. A bookseller at a party recently yelped with glee when I told him what I was reading and then gushed: " You're reading the hot chimp sex book!
These apes supposedly have inordinate amounts of sex and never fight. Can this appealing story really be true? Reputation: Bonobos are miniature, sharing, caring chimps, living in hippie communes with no aggression and lots of sex. Reality: Not really. Bonobos are roughly the same size as chimps, can be aggressive and use sex in very specific contexts.
The crazed celebrity chimpanzee shot dead by police after mauling a woman shared an 'intimate relationship' with its owner, it has emerged. Travis, the 14 stone pet chimpanzee, took long baths with doting owner Sandra Herold and even shared the widow's bed. He was fed the finest food and given wine in long-stemmed glasses. Travis would even brush the lonely year-old's hair each night and would pine for her if she was away. The year-old chimp, who appeared in several TV adverts including one for Coca Cola, was potty trained and could log on to a computer, brush his teeth, dress himself, drink wine from a glass, and use the TV remote to change channels. Now animal experts believe this unusually close relationship could have played a role in Monday's horrifying attack. Travis went beserk when Mrs Herold's friend Charla Nash visited their home in Stamford, Connecticut, tearing her face apart, ripping her hair out and biting her fingers. Mrs Herold tried in vain to pull Travis off her friend before she stabbed him with a kitchen knife.
